Team efforts on detect and avoid systems lead to achievement awa
A display during the Air Traffic Control Association’s annual award ceremony showcases a modified 2007 Winnebago outfitted with hardware and software from the Federal Aviation Administration’s Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System, or STARS, to provide beyond-visual-line-of-sight capabilities for remotely piloted aircraft in national airspace. A team led by personnel from the Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., Communication, Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management Center of Excellence, came up with the innovative idea to use the Winnebago as a mobile platform for the system.
