KIRTLAND AFB, N.M. -- The Air Force Safety Center recently released a Strategic Plan spanning through 2030 to ensure the Safety enterprise continues to meet the demands of today’s rapidly evolving strategic environment and positioning safety as a critical enabler of combat power and readiness.
The plan is a call to integrate safety into the very fabric of Department of the Air Force operations. It sets the conditions for Airmen and Guardians to execute their missions with speed, agility, and disciplined initiative.
Vision: A Safety Enterprise that accelerates and secures DAF’s warfighting advantage.
The new vision guides the enterprise beyond mishap prevention toward anticipating hazards, enabling responsible innovation, informing commander decisions, and integrating safety across force design, training, sustainment, and operations.
Mission: Preserve Combat Power through proactive policy, analysis, training, and risk management across all domains.
Through this mission, DAF Safety safeguards the force, sustains operational tempo, and strengthens the Department’s ability to deter aggression and prevail in conflict. Proactive policy, predictive analysis, mission-focused training, and integrated risk management enable the DAF Safety enterprise to anticipate threats, inform commanders, and preserve combat power across all domains.
“In an era of strategic competition, our safety enterprise must shift from a predominantly compliance-centric, reactive posture to a proactive, integrated, and data-driven warfighting-enabler that actively generates combat readiness,” said Brig. Gen. Otis Jones, DAF chief of safety and AFSEC commander. “This strategic plan codifies that transition, delivering a resource-aligned framework to optimize risk-to-force and risk-to-mission decisions.”
To achieve this, the plan is built upon three strategic priorities:
Priority #1: Integrate Risk Management: We will embed risk-informed decision-making throughout the force design, acquisition, training, and operational lifecycle.
Priority #2: Create Decision Advantage: We will harness the power of data, analytics, and AI to anticipate hazards and deliver timely, actionable insights to leaders at all echelons.
Priority #3: Build Enterprise Readiness: We will build the people, organizations, and capabilities required to support Air Force and Space Force missions across all domains.
The plan also recognizes the importance of data, analytics, and artificial intelligence in equipping our workforce to support joint operations in complex, contest environments.
“By integrating advanced analytics and proactive policy across all domains, we will achieve our vision of being ‘a Safety Enterprise that Accelerates and Secures Our Warfighting Advantage' and fulfill our core mission to 'Preserve Combat Power through proactive policy, analysis, training, and risk management across all domains,’ said Jones. “This plan provides a focused, resource-informed framework to position safety as a critical force multiplier for combat power and readiness.”
Charting the future requires the resolve to confront today’s challenges directly. This strategy is a living framework designed to adapt alongside dynamic threats, emerging technologies, and operational demands. The true metric of success lies in heightened readiness, superior decision advantage, and preserved combat power used to secure the DAF’s warfighting advantage.
