Troy D. Armstead, safety and occupational health manager for Air Force Safety, Headquarters, U.S. Air Force, was one of eight Air Force civilians who received the Department of Defense Spirit of Service Award in ceremonies held May 4, 2016, at the Pentagon. The event coincided with Public Service Recognition Week, May 1 - 7.

The award, presented by Deputy Defense Secretary Robert Work, recognizes federal civilian workers from multiple services and DoD agencies in the National Capital Region for their commitment to community service.

"Troy's engagement with the local community as a volunteer is diverse, frequent and intense," said Air Force Chief of Safety Maj. Gen. Andrew Mueller. "He understands and embodies the meaning of service before self and exhibits excellence in all we do through the food drives he coordinates; the coat drives he plans, organizes and executes; and myriad other services he provides charity organizations."

Within his work community, Armstead also volunteers for the Pentagon Chaplain Force as deacon for the Pentagon Christian Ministries.

Armstead has served the Air Force for 34 years with more than 30 years in safety.  The Spirit of Service Award recognizes his commitment to public service from January 2012 - December 2015.
