Air Force Credentialing Opportunities Online, or AF COOL, begun in January 2015, recognizes 16 fee-paid certifications for Air Force members. Five of these are specific to Air Force occupational safety. They are: Certified Safety Professional, Associate Safety Professional, Occupational Health & Safety Technologist, Construction Health & Safety Technician, and Safety Trained Supervisor.

The credentialing organization, the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, is a long-time supporter of the Air Force and the Air Force Safety Center by waiving application fees. Now, with AF COOL, the ability to obtain BCSP certifications is even easier.

"This is big news for our Airmen, our safety program, and for our Air Force at large," commented Senior Master Sgt. Joshua Franklin, CSP, Career Field Manager. "Certifications, such as the ASP and CSP, bring credibility and legitimacy to our training and career progression paths and have been well received across the safety career field."

All active-duty enlisted Airmen are eligible to participate in the AF COOL program. Participants can apply for certifications based on their Air Force specialty code, with a lifetime cap of $4,500. Guard, Reserve and civilians can take advantage of BCSP's application fee waiver program.

According to Bill Parsons, Air Force chief of occupational safety, "Being the only DoD component with a dedicated safety career field (1S0) for enlisted members, as well as full-time civilian safety professionals, we continually strive to become the best prepared and educated professionals to serve our country."
