Quest for Zero: The Fatal Four Published Sept. 15, 2015 By Lisa Gonzales Air Force Safety Center Public Affairs KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Air Force Occupational Safety begins the fiscal year 2016 Quest for Zero campaign on Oct. 1.The main focus of the campaign continues to be on-duty safety and risk management. This year the campaign will incorporate, on a quarterly basis, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's "Fatal Four": Struck By, Electrical, Fall Protection, and Struck (Caught) Between. Additionally, each quarter will include a special focus topic: distracted/impaired driving, personal protective equipment, back safety, and fatigue. According to OSHA, the first quarter focus, Struck-By hazards involve heavy equipment such as trucks and cranes and account for approximately 75 percent of struck-by fatalities. "Keeping Airmen aware and alive is our duty here at the Air Force Safety Center and we don't take that duty lightly; that is why we focus our efforts on giving Airmen the information they need to remain safe and alive," said Bill Parsons, Air Force chief of occupational safety. "Staying aware of your surroundings can prevent injuries or death; don't take safety for granted." For more information about FY16 Quest for Zero and the Fatal Four, contact your local safety office.
