Air Force Ground Safety introduces "5-2-Drive" as part of its ongoing Traffic Safety and Outreach education program.

Studies reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety and Air Force Safety Center statistics indicate there are five main factors that contribute to vehicle fatalities - both cars and motorcycles. They are:

1. Speeding
2. Alcohol
3. Cell phone use or texting while driving
4. Driving or riding without a seat belt
5. All other driving distractions

"As part of our efforts to protect lives and preserve combat capability, we must continue to teach Airmen their role in the safety mission," said Bill Parsons, Air Force chief of ground safety.

"5-2-Drive" is an educational tool to remind Airmen of the most common mistakes that can lead to a traffic fatality. Over the past five years, the Air Force had a total of 183 fatalities; 88 involving motorcycles and 95 involving cars. Contributing factors in 96 percent of these fatalities were from speeding, alcohol or other drug impairment.
