Michael E. Eckert, a ground safety professional at the Air Force Safety Center, received the F. Ward Reilly Leadership Award at the Civil Air Patrol National Conference in Denver, Colo. Aug. 15-17. Eckert received this award for his volunteer role as a major with the CAP.

The F. Ward Reilly Leadership Award is presented in conjunction with the Squadron of Distinction Award, which went this year to the New Mexico wing's Albuquerque Heights Composite Squadron, known as "Spirit Squadron," for its outstanding progress in 2012. Under Eckert's leadership, the squadron excelled in all three CAP missions -- emergency services, cadet programs and aerospace education.

"I am very grateful for this award, but it was earned by all the great senior members and cadets in the squadron," Eckert said.

In addition to his role with the CAP and AFSEC, Eckert is a member of the New Mexico Air National Guard.
