The Occupational Safety Division of the Air Force Safety Center hosted representatives of the American Society of Safety Engineers on Sept. 7, 2016, to discuss ways to continue building on the relationship through collaboration and development of safety professionals.

Tim Fisher, ASSE director of standards and technical services, and Tom Kerschner, ASSE account executive, met with senior leaders of Air Force aviation and occupational safety, as well as training and force development to examine how ASSE and the Air Force Safety Center can collaborate on publication of technical materials, align Air Force speakers at national professional conferences, and to review professional development.

“By partnering with ASSE on the formation of national consensus standards that affect the Air Force and connecting Air Force safety professionals with opportunities to speak at national professional conferences, the Air Force continues to lead in safe and agile operations on a global scale and in developing safety professionals to support the mission from Beale to Bagram and Cannon to Kandahar,” said Chief Master Sgt. Joshua Franklin, Air Force safety career field manager.

ASSE is the professional organization for safety professionals worldwide with more than 36,000 members. The recent visit to the Air Force Safety Center represents the unique connection that the service has with the profession, Franklin said.
