In March 2020, a team of scientists from the Smithsonian Institution and a U.S. Air Force wildlife ecologist, in coordination with Djiboutian nationals, traveled Djibouti’s interior and collected targeted specimens in environmental extremes such as mountain forests and mangrove swamps to identify wildlife hazards near airfields.
