Djibouti Unknown

The critically endangered Djibouti Spurfowl (Pternistis ochropectus), which is believed to have as few as 250-500 individuals remaining in the wild, and is Djibouti’s only unique, or endemic species was spotted during a recent wildlife assessment to the Horn of Africa nation of Djibouti in March. The Smithsonian Institution’s Feather Identification Lab works in partnership with military (Air Force and Navy) units around the world to assess and manage wildlife hazards near airfields.
