Now that the holidays are over and calendar year 2017 is in full swing, Air Force occupational safety professionals remind Airmen to reacquaint themselves with the fiscal year 2017 Quest for Zero initiative. Q4Z is a year-round effort to reduce on-duty mishaps is all areas of occupational safety.

The Q4Z Why Wait theme communicates to all Airmen that there are potential hazards every day in their workplaces.

“We must work diligently every day in every workplace throughout the Air Force to prevent mishaps in order to move closer to our goal of zero injuries and mishaps,” said Bill Parsons, Air Force chief of occupational safety. “Our mantra of Why Wait means it is incumbent upon all Airmen to do their part. If you see the potential for a mishap, speak up; don't wait.”

From fiscal 2007 to fiscal 2016, there were 15,144 on-duty mishaps – all classes and all categories, including 36 fatalities.

“The downward trend in overall Industrial and Occupational mishaps is encouraging, but we must never be complacent about the mishap potential,” Parsons said. “Our guard should always be up if we’re going to prevent the next mishap.”
