The 78th Air Base Wing Administrative and General Industry Safety Certificate Program gives Robins’ workers the chance to earn certificates in safety without leaving the base.

Developed by the Environmental Safety and Occupational Health Council in December 2017, the program allows people to earn a certificate in one of five areas: a 15-hour Administrative Safety Certificate, a 26-hour Premier Administrative Safety Certificate, 15-hour General Industry Safety Certificate, a 30-hour General Industry Safety Certificate, or 75-hour Premier General Industry Certificate.

Dave Decker, chief of Occupational Safety in the 78th Air Base Wing Safety Office, said the certificate program was developed to promote workplace safety and health and to make workers more knowledgeable about workplace hazards, as well as their rights and responsibilities.

“Training content includes hazard recognition and avoidance, workers' rights and responsibilities, employer responsibilities, and the value of a safety and health management system in the workplace,” he said. “All courses are available on location at Robins, either online or in base classrooms. The knowledge workers gain from completing the program enhances their abilities to recognize safety and health hazards in turn increases workplace safety.”

Decker said once the individual completes the course they will be given credit either automatically with a certificate generated through the Advanced Distributed Learning System or the course instructor closing out the course within the Training Scheduling System.

“Once they receive a certificate, then the individual will complete the certificate worksheet,” he said. “Once the worksheet is complete with the appropriate amount of hours and signed by 78th Force Support Squadron Education Office, the individual will take their completed worksheet to the 78th ABW Safety Office to receive their certificate for completing the AGISC Program Curriculum.”

Decker said the program has a two-fold benefit. Completing the certificate program enhances the safety and health knowledge of the workers, which, in turn, provides a sage and healthful workplace.

“It’s an excellent opportunity for the workers to obtain the necessary knowledge and understanding to recognize and mitigate safety hazards at the lowest levels before a mishap occurs,” he said.
